A man has been arrested after a string of violent assaults in Henderson, which led to multiple injuries.

About 5.24pm last night, frontline police officers responded to a series of calls from the public about assaults that were taking place on Railside Ave.

The West Area Commander, Inspector Simon Walker, said a man reportedly walked through the area and assaulted multiple members of the public he came across.

“Sadly, several people have sustained injuries as a result,” Walker said.

Police were on scene within minutes and arrested a 30-year-old man on the street.

“The behaviour is unacceptable and does not reflect the standards and values of our Henderson community,” Walker said.

“The incident last night was an isolated act by one individual who is now being held to account.”

A 30-year-old man appeared in the Waitākere District Court today.

He faces 13 charges for serious offending, including five of assault with intent to injure, two of injuring with intent to injure, common assault, two of resisting police, two of obstructing police, and theft.

Police said they have successfully opposed the man’s bail, and he has been remanded in custody to reappear on December 11.

Walker said members of the public quickly assisted and ensured the safety of others until police were on scene.

“Their actions demonstrate the strength and resilience of our community, and we commend their courage while reminding everyone that the safest course of action is always to contact police immediately,” he said.
