Hemmings murder accused a 'quiet man'

The family of the woman at the centre of a relationship breakup which allegedly led to the fatal stabbing of Auckland businessman Austin Hemmings have described the accused killer as "a quiet man" - and say they will keep praying for his wellbeing.

A 45-year-old Otahuhu sickness beneficiary - who has been given name suppression - is expected to be charged with murder when he next appears in court.

The Herald on Sunday can confirm he was not on bail or parole, nor does he appear to have a history of drug abuse or mental illness.

Detective Senior Sergeant Gerry Whitley said yesterday 40 officers were continuing to work on the case.
