A woman was airlifted to hospital after a fall near the Waikato River yesterday evening.
The 45-year-old from Papamoa fell and broke her leg close to the river, near Whakamaru, 51km south of Rotorua, before 6pm last night.
A helicopter was dispatched due to the remote location and nature of
the injury. She was flown to Rotorua Hospital.
It wasn't clear how she fell, or how far.
"My impression was that she didn't fall a great distance," BayTrust Rescue Helicopter base manager Barry Vincent said.
