Hectic action as most top seeds prevail

There was a busy schedule for the 43 players who took part in the Wairarapa Tennis Association's annual Trev's Sports junior closed tournament at the Masterton Tennis Centre last Sunday.

Ninety-two matches were played with the singles and doubles action starting at 8.30am and continuing through until 7pm.

Those with the top seedings generally emerged victorious although several games were decided on a tiebreaker.

Not only titles were at stake, but also places in the Wairarapa junior side to play Kapi Mana in Masterton on March 17.

Boys 14yrs - Championship singles: Landon Palmer 1, Brodie Palmer 2, Liam Kerr 3, Sam Wilkinson 4. Singles plate: Croydon Hall 1, Liam Heard 2. Consolation singles plate: Christian Atkins 1, Jaimie Gordon 2. Championship doubles: Landon and Brodie Palmer 1, Sam Wilkinson and Croydon Hall 2. Boys 12yrs - Championship singles: Patrick Hall 1, Lochie McNab 2, Hunter Jacobsen 3, Matthew Heard 4. Singles plate: Joseph Greenlees 1, Ben Watt 2. Consolation singles plate: Jack Wayman 1, Lewis Houston 2. Championship doubles: Ben Watt and Patrick Wall 1, Joseph Greenlees and Hunter Jacobsen 2. 10ys and 12yrs girls - Championship singles: Poppy Lambert 1, Sydney Palmer 2, Becky King 3. Championship doubles: Poppy Lambert and Becky King 1, Sydney Palmer and Brooke Colton 2.

Wairarapa's Sade Atkinson has been selected in the Tennis Centre 16yrs girls team to compete at the national age group teams event in Albany next month. She won her grade at the TC Masters tournament in Palmerston North last weekend.
