Heavy rain on the way for Hawke's Bay

A severe weather warning is in place for Gisborne and the Hawke's Bay, with Metservice forecasting heavy rain for the region today.

MetService says a deep low centred just north of East Cape is moving southwards, and the rain band associated with this feature is spreading down into northern Hawkes Bay.

Rain is easing north of Gisborne, while south of the town 25-35mm of rainfall is expected in the five hours from 7am.

In the Hawkes Bay north of Mohaka 50 to 70mm of rain is expected from 7am to 3pm.
