Heavy rain causes surface flooding in Levin

Heavy rain has caused surface flooding in Levin, catching emergency services by surprise.

A central fire service communications spokesman said Levin fire crews were out across the township responding to reports of flooding.

"It's taken us by surprise,'' he said.

Inspector Chris Tate of central police communications said a car had become stuck in the flooding in Argyle St, Levin, and a police unit had assisted at the scene.

The heavy rain was easing, he said.
