Heavy rain causes flooding in Northland

Heavy rain caused flooding in Northland today.

Police said there was heavy flooding on State Highway 14, at Maungatapere and Poroti, west of Whangarei.

The road would be closed if rain continued to fall and water levels rise, northern police communications Inspector Anthony Edwards said.

He advised motorists to avoid the areas.

The MetService has issued a heavy rain warning for the area.

It predicted from 4pm today to 4pm tomorrow, 60mm to 80mm of rain was likely in places.
