Heavy landing as boulder hits road

A hefty chunk of limestone crashed to the road in Makuri Gorge, east of Pahiatua, yesterday.

Farmworker Gordon Reid took this photo of a boulder which fell on to the Pahiatua Pongaroa Rd, near Makuri, between noon and 1pm and showed it to Pahiatua's Bush Telegraph editor Steve Carle.

He said he had been just able to drive around the fallen boulder.

Mr Carle was told by the Tararua District Council the boulder had been cleared away by contractors by yesterday afternoon.
