MetService’s Heather Keats with the weekend forecast you need.
Heat alerts have been issued for parts of the North Island, while the weather is set to be wet and windy further south.
MetService has predicted settled and sunny conditions on Saturday, with Auckland seeing a high of 25C and a low of 16C with the clouds clearing inthe afternoon.
However, the heat ramps up on the East Coast with Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne likely to experience temperatures in the low 30s all weekend.
The Bay of Plenty is in a similar situation, resulting in MetService issuing heat alerts across these regions.
MetService said the heat alert scheme is designed to focus on what it describes as top-end heat and the thresholds for this vary between regions.
Moving further south and the dry conditions continue despite early cloudy conditions from Taranaki through Whanganui and down to Wellington, but this should clear by the afternoon.
