Headmaster told off over school fee exclusions

Whangarei Boys' High headmaster Al Kirk was called into the headmaster's office when Education Minister Chris Carter visited the school this week.

Mr Carter criticised Mr Kirk's actions in withdrawing boys from class whose parents hadn't paid school fees.

In February, Mr Kirk excluded boys from their regular timetabled classes unless their parents paid, or made arrangements to pay.

Mr Kirk said most boys were back in class within days.
