Head-on crash closes State Highway 2

Two people were hurt, one of them critically, in a head-on crash at Maramarua in Waikato this afternoon.

Emergency services worked to free one person from each vehicle after they were trapped in the crash at 3.25pm.

One had injuries described as serious, the other was critical, police said.

State Highway 2 was blocked and diversions were in place.

Traffic was becoming considerably congested long delays were expected, police said.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area.
