Hastings: Fire severely damages Camberley family home

A fire has ripped through a family home in suburban Hastings.

Firefighters were called to a fire at a home on Takapu Rd in Camberley about 7.40pm on Monday.

When they arrived, the fire was “well involved”, a Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson said.

Two fire engines from Hastings, two from Napier and two specialist support vehicles attended the scene.

Firefighters extinguished the fire before 8pm but remained on the scene until 9pm.

The house was severely damaged, including damage to the front lawn and windows that appeared to have been blown out by the fire now covered with plywood.

A nearby resident, who did not want to be named, said a large family lived at the home and it was fortunate that no one had been injured.
