Harcourts have shown a successful defence of the Netball Wairarapa premier one title in 2013 is well within their compass after scoring a comfortable 53-28 win over Eketahuna at the Colombo Rd courts in Masterton on Saturday.
Eketahuna were the surprise package of the grading round series after they remained unbeaten and were promoted to the top grade as a consequence. But they found Harcourts a handful in every department, especially defence, where their shooters were given little respite.
Harcourts' speed and accuracy moving the ball through the court was impressive. They generally made the most of their scoring opportunities.
Wairarapa College and Baywide Gladstone had a battle royal with the students grabbing a slender 42-40 victory. Also going right down to the wire was the clash between Pioneer Blue and Carterton New World Vipers, won by Pioneer Blue by the narrowest of margins, 39 to 38. Celtic lived up to their billing as a potential grand finalist further down the track with their 54-30 beating of St Matthew's Collegiate.
