Two women have been charged with arson after a fire at a Waikato school.
Multiple rooms at Sacred Heart Girls College were damaged in the blaze on Friday night which saw 60 firefighters battle to contain and bring the fire under control.
Police yesterday said they had reports of fireworksbeing let off near the school and were investigating whether it was the cause of the fire. The Herald understands fireworks were found at the scene.
Detective Sergeant Terri Wilson, of Hamilton CIB, today confirmed two 19-year-old women have been arrested and will appear in the Hamilton District Court on Wednesday each facing a charge of arson.
"Police would like to thank members of the public who provided information which assisted with inquiries," he said.

The top floor of a two-storey block was well alight when trucks arrived just after midnight.
It took firefighters five hours to put the flames out and involved crews coming from across the region including Ngaruawahia, Cambridge, Morrinsville and Te Awamutu.
One classroom, a staff room and resource rooms at the Catholic school were damaged in the fire.
