One person has been arrested, and police are on the hunt for more after “antisocial” dirt bike riders took over Hamilton roads at the weekend.
Waikato police said they received multiple calls on Saturday after riders reportedly cut across sports fields and took over intersections.
Senior Sergeant Aimee Whitley confirmedone person was arrested and referred to Youth Aid, but said police needed the public’s help to find others involved.
“While we acknowledge it can be challenging to identify offenders when they are riding in groups or wearing face coverings, we will continue to investigate all information provided to us in order to hold these people accountable,” she said.
“The actions of these individuals place not only themselves at risk but also members of the public who are simply going about their day.”
Anyone with information or footage on the “unsafe or antisocial behaviour” was asked to get in touch with police via 105, quoting file number 260509/4814.
