Hamilton cyclist killed riding in cycle lane

A 22-year-old Hamilton cyclist was killed when he was hit by a van while riding in a cycle lane in Hamilton today.

Police said the cyclist was in the cycle lane heading west on Queens Ave in Frankton when he was hit by a courier van heading east.

The cyclist was thrown through the van's windscreen. He died at the scene.

Police were interviewing the van driver but no charges had yet been laid.

The victim's name had not been released as family had not been notified.
