Mark Skipper pleaded guilty to male assaults female and breach of a protection order.
Angry at text messages he was reading on his partner's cellphone, Mark Skipper pushed her on to a bed and kneed the woman in the throat until she felt "her neck was being crushed", as their 6-month-old baby lay within arm's reach.
When the woman yelled for help, the 23-year-oldtold her "no one will be able to hear you scream. My mum's inside and she doesn't care what I do to you".
Appearing before Judge Barbara Morris in Masterton District Court, Skipper pleaded guilty to male assaults female and breach of a protection order.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Garry Wilson said the victim had gone to Skipper's Featherston home on November 3 to drop off their son for a visit.
Skipper refused to let her leave and became angry when he saw messages on her phone.
"He started abusing her because she had taken the protection order out against him," Sergeant Wilson said.
Lawyer Frank Minehan asked that Skipper be remanded for sentencing in Hutt Valley District Court as he was to be sentenced there on December 1 for other domestic violence charges he has previously pleaded to.
Judge Morris remanded Skipper in custody for a pre-sentence report and to appear in the Hutt court on December 1 for sentencing.
