Tuhirangi's unbeaten run in the Wairarapa-Bush Rugby Union's senior reserve competition has come to an end.
After stringing 12 wins together, Tuhirangi were hot favourites when they played a Greytown side with a record of eight wins and four losses on Saturday.
But, in a hard-fought encounter, it wasGreytown who ran out deserved winners by 13-6.
Talented Pioneer halfback Joseph Thompson not only kicked the last-minute penalty which gave Pioneer a somewhat fortuitous 34-31 win over Marist in their premier division match at Memorial Park on Saturday, but in doing so he also became the leading individual scorer in the Tui Cup competition.
He has scored 59 points, just ahead of Tom Meuli (Eketahuna) 58, Cameron Hayton (Gladstone) 56, and Nick Olson (East Coast) 54.
When the Kapene Cup and Tui Cup competitions are combined, however, it is Hayton who leads the way with 173 points, followed by Thompson 144, Tipene Haira (Martinborough) 119, and Meuli 103.
On the try-scoring front, three players share the lead in the Tui Cup with seven apiece - Teihana Brown (Greytown), Tavita Isaac (Greytown) and Damian Kamo-Paku (Pioneer).
