Govt dumps plans for child harm prevention orders

Proposed child harm prevention orders are being shelved by the Government.

The orders, which would have imposed conditions on people considered high risk for child abuse, had been put forward amongst a raft of reforms aimed at cracking down on child abuse.

However Social Development Minister Paula Bennett says their introduction is to be put on hold.

She says the Government's carefully considered submissions on the orders and believe better child protection can be achieved without them.
