One high departs but another is hot on its heels - and in between there is a moderate chance of rain, especially for the middle of the country. The golden weather being enjoyed by much of the country will come to an end early next week, but it will be back, says the MetService.
The incoming weather system is forecast to bring rain across most parts of New Zealand and could be heavy for a time in somewestern provinces.
"The big high that was stuck, or blocked, in place just to the east of New Zealand is now weakening, and this will allow a brief spell of rain to move through Sunday and early next week," MetService spokesman Daniel Corbett said.
Unfortunately, the rain accompanying the southerly change will be far more limited, and not nearly enough for the very dry regions in the east and north of the North Island.
This front and southerly change will be replaced by a new high from about the middle of the week, bringing further settled weather.
