Glass fell from a high-rise building and smashed on to a footpath in central Auckland this morning.
The glass plummeted just before 9.30am from as high as the 13th storey of a building in Waterloo Quadrant.
Emergency services blocked the area to traffic.
A reporter at the scene said the
glass fell from near the top of an elevator shaft in the Waterloo Towers, two buildings down from the High Court.
The glass came from a single window-pane. Firefighters and police cleared the glass and made sure foot and vehicle traffic kept out of harm's way.
