Waikato police are investigating the robbery of a set of car keys and cellphone from two girls in a Ngaruawahia street.
Senior Sergeant Ray Malcolmson said the girls were in Kiatoa St at about 11.45pm when they were approached by three men.
They were assaulted before having their keys andcellphone taken off them. The police dog team searched the area but those involved are yet to be spoken to.
It was unclear what the assault involved, he said, but CIB staff would this morning look into what happened.
A Ngaruawahia resident posted her disgust about the incident on Facebook.
"Whoever you 3 boys were, why don't you get a job you clowns ... that phone is useless to you coz its now locked and reported stolen, and those keys you took are useless with no car. ... What the hell is going on with NGA?? Get a job you losers."
Anyone with information is urged to phone Hamilton police on 07 8586200.
