Girl caught in drain dies from injuries

The torrential rains which struck last week claimed a second life after the 13-year-old girl who was trapped in a stormwater drain died yesterday.

Narelle Nimmo, of Kaiwaka, had been in a serious condition since last Thursday night and died in Starship children's hospital after being transferred from Whangarei Hospital.

Narelle and friend Patrick O'Donoghue, 12, were sucked down an enclosed drain at Kaiwaka. The youth suffered severe abrasions.

Robin Henry Gray, 78, of Pukekohe, was found dead after flooding in the town, south of Auckland. - NZPA
