Gas permits still missing

Almost 200 gas certificates unlawfully issued for work in Northland and the Bay of Plenty have not yet been found.

Police and safety authorities are investigating an alleged scam where illegal gas connections that could be lethal have been fitted in homes and businesses.

More than 570 blank safety certificates were signed by a registered gasfitter in the past three years then sold to unqualified tradesmen who carried out work in Auckland and Northland.
