After reading about Masterton's new community garden in Wairarapa Midweek last month, Manjot Singh, Masterton Z service station manager, couldn't wait to roll up his sleeves and help with the project.
In fact he was so keen he also contacted Z ambassador Aman Sabharwal andthe pair teamed up with Kim McGuckin and Marie McAnulty (both of Wairarapa Supergrans) for a spot of seedling planting.
Marie says there has been an overwhelming response from the public since the story was published, with many businesses and individuals donating items towards the no-dig garden.
"Lansdowne Nursery have given us cabbage, silverbeet and carrot seedlings, while various mowing contractors around town have arranged to drop off their grass clippings. The Men's Shed has offered to supply us with tools, and we even have our very own handyman - Merv Archer - who is donating his time and services," she says.
While there have been three or four inquiries to help with the garden on Friday mornings, Marie says she would still love to see some volunteers sign up to help with watering or weeding during the week. If you can help contact Marie at Wairarapa Supergrans ph: 377-3115.
