Gang event goes smoothly

An event involving more than 150 Tribesmen and Killer Beez gang members resulted in few arrests, delighting police and the Murupara community.

While acknowledging the inaugural Tribesman Poker Run on Saturday was not completely trouble-free, local authorities say most gang members heeded warnings and behaved themselves.

The event generated a heavy police presence in Murupara and surrounding district over the weekend.

Rotorua police area commander Inspector Bruce Horne said: "What we were pleased about was that it was the community - not just the police - who gave them the message that antisocial attitudes wouldn't be welcome."
