Funeral for Hawera baby girl

A funeral was due to be held for the baby girl that died in Hawera in unexplained circumstances on Tuesday.

Janice Anne Shona Te Aroha Revell was 7-weeks-old when she died at a home in the south Taranaki town.

A post-mortem examination carried out at Palmerston North Hospital was "inconclusive", police said.

Earlier reports that an object in the home may have fallen on the baby were incorrect, a police spokesman said today.

A funeral was expected to be held this weekend and investigations would continue next week, police said.

Senior Sergeant Brent Matuku, officer in charge of the investigation said on Wednesday it was a "very distressing time for Janice's family."

"We are continuing to speak to them in an effort to piece together the circumstances that led to Janice's tragic death," he said.

"We still don't have all the facts, however over the comings days we should have a clearer picture of what has occurred."

Police were not seeking anyone else in connection with the investigation.
