Fullers crew member falls overboard

A Fullers ferry crew member fell overboard at the Devonport terminal this afternoon.

The man has now been recovered and appears to have escaped with only a few scratches, a Fullers spokeswoman said.

He was on the 3pm ferry from Auckland city to Waiheke, with a stop in Devonport, when he fell off the boat.

The spokeswoman said the crew member would be medically assessed when he arrived back in Auckland.

She said he was on his way back now and was believed to only have a few scratches.

A passenger on the ferry at the time, who did not want to be named, said a call came over the intercom saying: "Man overboard, man overboard."

Staff members were immediately mobilised to retrieve him.

She said passengers were now on another ferry heading towards Waiheke.

Sixteen passengers and a Fullers crew member were injured earlier this year when a Fullers ferry crashed into Victoria Wharf at Devonport after suffering an apparent mechanical failure.
