ACTION: XSTV is an action/extreme sports show that screens on Sky TV and TV2.
James Copland, a graduate of Media Design School's diploma of visual effects and motion graphics, traded in his job in international tax for a creative career in television production.
"It wasn't my true passion,'' explains James. "I would spend hours after work in front of my computer, editing my own
video productions. It suddenly dawned on me that television, not tax, was what I was really interested in and that is what led me to Media Design School.
"I now work as an editor for XSTV, an action/extreme sports show that screens on Sky TV and TV2. I am part of the team in charge of producing the show each week. I also film various stories and interviews when time allows. Most importantly for me, I was able to prove to my friends who are unhappy with their own jobs that it is possible to change careers, even after spending five years studying in an unrelated field.''
Chef Hamish Beachman traded in his career for the role of 3D artist/animator in the lucrative video games industry.
"3D modelling had been a hobby of mine for many years,'' says Hamish. "I knew that I had to try it as a career so I went to Media Design School to study 3D computer animation. It has been a lot of hard work but the old cliche of doing what you love rings true.''
