Police are investigating a head-on-collision involving a French national on State Highway 1 last night at Pukeuri, north of Oamaru.
A police spokeswoman said about 6.50pm the French driver performed a U-turn into the path of another vehicle.
The driver and the passenger of the hit car were airlifted to
Dunedin Hospital with serious injuries.
The French national and the passenger they were travelling with were not injured, she said.
The French driver has been charged on two counts of careless driving causing injury.
