French Baker brings croissants to capital

Fans of popular Greytown cafe The French Baker can now enjoy their products in Wellington with the opening of a second store.

The French Baker launched its Wellington branch last Wednesday, on Waring Taylor St near the train station.

Owner Rusty Donworth said he was "very happy with how it's going".

He has opened the second store in partnership with Greytown chef Sam Oldfield.

Mr Donworth said his Greytown cafe was a regular weekend haunt for Wellingtonians.

"A lot of people who visit Greytown over the weekend can now buy their favourite Greytown weekend treats all week long."

He said it would also attract corporate clients, being located in the CBD.

The shop in the capital is small at just 18sq m, so everything is made fresh in Greytown in the morning and driven over the hill in time for opening.

"It's just utilising the capacity that we have here - and it's creating more jobs which is good for everybody," Mr Donworth said.

The Wellington branch is open from 6.45am Monday to Friday.
