Franklin Rd in Ponsonby lights up for Christmas

It's the first of December and the famous Christmas lights at Franklin Road have been officially switched on.

The lighting ceremony took place in Ponsonby tonight and included a lot of fake snow which kept the kids happy.

Jayan Ranchhodji, aged 5 and a half, enjoyed the Christmas lights.

And there was even a famous face among the crowd - Kiwi music legend Dave Dobbyn stopped by to check out the lights too.

The Franklin Rd lights will be switched on each night throughout December for the thousands of visitors expected to visit the display.
