Four sought over guard's murder in Henderson

Police investigating the murder of a security guard at a West Auckland building site have revealed more details about the four men seen in the area when he died, including what one of them told a taxi driver as they left.

Charanpreet Dhaliwal, 22, was found dead at a Fulton & Hogan construction site on Selwood Rd in Henderson at 3.11am on November 18.

An autopsy showed Mr Dhaliwal, who was working his first shift as a guard, died of a blow to the head. He was found near the main gates of the site by workers returning a truck.

Police have been looking for four men spotted in the area at the time Mr Dhaliwal died.

Yesterday Detective Senior Sergeant Stan Brown said that two of the men caught a taxi away from the area not long after the death.

He described them as Samoan and aged about 21.

One got in the front seat and told the driver he was from Vini village in Samoa and played for the Faatoia rugby team. The driver described him as solid "like a rugby player" with black short curly hair, a moustache and unshaven around his lower face.

The driver said the second man understood Samoan. He was about the same age and build.

Mr Brown said the men got out of the taxi at the corner of Hepburn Rd and Neesons Way in Glendene.

Earlier they and two others were refused entry to Chickx Adult Club, about 400m from where Mr Dhaliwal was found.
