Former transtasman league star charged with assault, threatening to kill

The man is charged with assault and threatening to kill in alleged offending committed in Auckland this month.

A former transtasman league star could face up to seven years in jail after accusations he assaulted and threatened to kill someone in Auckland.

The man has interim name suppression.

He appeared in the Auckland District Court this month on one charge of threatening to kill and another of assault.

The alleged victim was a woman.

During his career, the prominent sportsman played well over 100 NRL games.

It’s alleged the offending occurred on December 14 this year.

A charge of threatening to kill carries a maximum term of seven years in prison.

It is a category three offence, the second-highest level of offending.

The assault charge is also a category three offence and can result in a prison sentence of up to two years.

The man is due to reappear in court in April next year.

The Herald is seeking comment from the man.
