Former shot put champ to face Annette King at election

Former shot put champion Glenda Hughes will take on Labour Minister Annette King in the Wellington electorate of Rongotai at the election.

Ms Hughes has been selected as National's candidate in the electorate and has also been nominated as a list candidate.

The former shot put champion represented New Zealand at the 1982 Commonwealth Games. She has also competed in softball, basketball, powerboating, netball and powerlifting.

For the past 12 years, Ms Hughes has worked as a media and management consultant. Before that, she spent 18 years with the police.

Mrs King won the Rongotai seat at the last election with a 12,928 majority.
