The man appeared in Dunedin District Court before Judge David Robinson today, charged with assault, escaping the lawful custody of a police officer, and behaving in a disorderly mannerin circumstances likely to cause violence to start.
All three charges relate to incidents that allegedly occurred at a central Dunedin bar on November 27.
Defence sought interim name suppression, raising concerns about the impact on the man’s family.
The judge granted interim suppression to preserve the position until a formal application can be filed.
Bail was granted with conditions not to be violent or threatening towards property or people, not to visit or come within 100m of the bar where the incident is alleged to have taken place, and to reside at a specified address.
