Forest and Bird takes aim at 'destructive dairying'

Forest and Bird has switched its campaign to clean up farming on the West Coast from a focus on "dirty dairying" - primarily aimed at water pollution - to "destructive dairying".

The lobby group has asked members to take the fight to Westland Milk Products and Fonterra by asking them to "make all milk supply agreements conditional on there being no conversion of indigenous habitats, including wetlands, to pasture".

The newsletter said the Mariua Valley was an example of the continued destruction of natural habitats for dairying.
