Others posted images of a turbulent, brown Leith River at high levels than usual, and appealed for residents to "help out" by clearing leaves from drains.

Otago Regional Council said: "Due to flooding on South Road at the Glen, the Corstorphine bus (33A & 33), will go via Wilkie Road and Burns Street both ways, and the Lookout Point bus is being diverted along Hillside Road. Expect delays."
A police spokeswoman said they had no major callouts in relation to weather in Dunedin today.
Fire Service spokesman Riwai Grace said seven jobs were attended between 7am and 7.30am this morning.
"We have seven jobs for minor flooding. Some water and smoke alarms, nothing serious, for about 20 to 25 minutes before the rain stopped."
Local authorities said the flooding was not on a serious enough sale to warrant a Civil Defence Emergency.
Dunedin City Council Civil Defence Manager Neil Brown said there had been no advice from authorities to launch any action.
"We have no advisories from yesterday for this event," he said. "There have been no communication about rivers being a problem, no communication about significant surface flooding.
"At certain times of the year we get, particularly in Autumn, when the water can't get down the drains but there is no hint of a Civil Defence scale event for this one."
A heavy rain warning for the region had been removed, he said.
Motorists are being urged to take care on southern roads as heavy rain lifts river levels.
The New Zealand Transport Agency advises that all highways in Otago and Southland are open, but motorists are urged to take care.
The Dansey's Pass Road is now 4x4 vehicle restricted use only due to snow.
The Southland District Council said care was needed on the region's roads today as there was widespread flooding.
There was surface water on roads, and trees down on the Lilburn-Monowai and Kakapo Roads, but in an update around 9.45am, there were no road closures.
Weather choices today: Rain or snow
Wintry conditions are expected across the country today with snow falling to low levels in the South Island and a fresh round of thunderstorms rattling the north.
MetService duty forecaster Jasmine Kennedy says not too many parts of the country will escape either rain or snow today.
It includes snowfalls of down to 600m from Otago through to Marlborough by later today.
Further north, thunder and hail is expected to batter western regions from Taranaki northwards, including Auckland.
Showers are expected over the rest of the island turning to evening rain. Everywhere will experience strong westerly winds.
Auckland is expecting a stormy day and a high of 16C.
Wellington, while starting fine, will get evening rain and a high of 13C.
Christchurch and Dunedin are both expecting rain with a high of 10C and snow falling on the hills of Banks Peninsula.
