Flood-trapped trampers rescued

Twenty trampers trapped by flooding on the Heaphy Track in the Nelson Region are being bused to safety.

The trampers were trapped in huts at the Collingwood end of the track by severe flooding yesterday.

Floodwaters destroyed the James Bridge yesterday, taking out road access to the track.

DOC is sending staff in on foot to check on the condition of the track.
