A logging truck has flipped on its side and is blocking a main road to Hamilton Airport.

The New Zealand Transport Agency said the accident had closed State Highway 21 near Tamahere and a detour was now in place.

Those intending to travel to the airport needed to use the alternate State Highway 3 route.

Motorists were advised to delay their journey or expect delays.
