Auckland Council has launched a new initiative to help people get home safely after a night on the town.
The Ride Safe card, a joint initiative between the council, Co-Op Taxis and ACC, offers fixed-rate taxi fares from the city centre on Friday and Saturday nights, and is available at
selected bars and restaurants.
Seven fixed-rate zones are offered on the card, with fares ranging from $22 to city fringe suburbs to $130 for travel to Gulf Harbour, Helensville, Pukekohe or Whangaparoa.
Auckland Mayor Len Brown said he wanted Aucklanders and visitors to have an entertaining and safe time in the city centre's restaurants and bars.
"Ride Safe is just another initiative to ensure people can enjoy themselves and get home safely at the end of the evening."
