Five-car crash in central Christchurch blocks lanes, occupants trapped

Police and fire services are at the scene of the crash on Bealey Ave, Christchurch as of 7.15pm on August 23.

A five-car pile up in central Christchurch has left two people injured, one of them seriously, tonight.

The five-vehicle crash occurred just after 7pm at the busy intersection of Sherborne St and Bealey Ave.

One occupant was seriously injured in the crash and the other moderately injured.

Police and fire services arrived at the scene by 7:15pm and both patients were transported to Christchurch Hospital.

Police reported the northbound lane of Bealey Ave was blocked for a time

Occupants were for a time trapped in their vehicles.
