Firefighters are battling a large scrub fire near Dargaville that has forced people to evacuate houses and campsites.
The blaze broke out at Glinks Gully at about midnight.
Seven fire crews and two helicopters were used to bring the blaze under control.
One crew is still at the scene and
another is on its way.
