Firefighters back at Tiwai Point

Firefighters will be back on Department of Conservation scrubland at Tiwai Point near Bluff today, making sure any hot spots do not flare up.

Almost 1000 hectares was burned through, in a blaze which began on Friday night.

Firefighters went home last night, but will check on the area again today. Helicopters have also been kept on standby.

A contractor is thought to have accidently started the fire.
