Fire shuts down inter-island power line

The main inter-island power line across the Cook Strait has been shut down after a fire.

The fire in Port Underwood at the top of the South Island has forced Transpower to shut the line down.

Transpower spokeswoman Rebecca Wilson said it was not clear how the fire started but the company are looking into it.

She said no one has lost power as a result of the HVDC line going down.
