Eight fire appliances are fighting a large blaze in a former dairy factory in central Inglewood, a Fire Service spokesman said today.
Fire service communications manager David Meikle said the building, full of cardboard boxes, was "well alight".
The alarm was first raised at 4.20pm, and eight appliances
from Inglewood, New Plymouth, Stratford and Waitara were battling the blaze.
Mr Meikle said no injuries had been reported.
Until 1991 Inglewood was home to the Moa Nui dairy factory, before it was merged with Kiwi Dairies in Hawera.
At one stage Moa-Nui Dairy Company was the fourth largest in the country.
No further information was available.
