Fire extensively damages Upper Hutt house

Residents of an Upper Hutt house escaped safely today after a fire extensively damaged the property.

Emergency services were called to the Blueberry Grove home in Timberlea at 6.51am, central fire communications spokesman Craig Dally said.

People were inside the property when the blaze began, but all escaped without injury.

When fire crews arrived the house was "fully involved", Mr Dally said.

The property was "extensively" damaged.

Four fire trucks were sent to the scene and they were still there dampening down hotspots.

The cause of the fire was not yet known, Mr Dally said.
