Fire crews called to large blaze in Wiri

Emergency services are currently responding to a large blaze in Auckland.

A spokeswoman for the Fire Service confirmed there was a building fire on Aerovista Pl in Wiri.

Two ambulance units were called to the scene, a spokeswoman for St John Ambulance said.

A Fire Service spokesman said they were alerted to the fire just after 11am this morning and arrived to find it "fully involved".

The single-level factory building - roughly 50m by 100m - is used for food processing. The fire was in the processing area.

All staff were accounted for, the spokesman said, and the fire was now extinguished.

At peak there were eight fire trucks and a specialist appliance at the scene, but that has now be reduced to six trucks.

A Facebook user wrote that there were about a dozen fire trucks at the scene.

Sonia Warn, the office manager of Collision Repair Centre on Aerovista Pl, said the fire was directly across the road from her at Eco Stock Supplies.

She said there were about three staff inside the building at the time but they had all managed to get out safely.

Ms Warn said there were five or six fire trucks at the scene, and the fire was now under control.
