Fifty million up

Peugeot has produced its 50 millionth vehicle since starting in 1891.

The company's innovations include the first four-cylinder engine on the Type 39 in 1902, and first diesel particulate filter fitted as standard - on the 607 luxury sedan in 2000.

Particulate filter technology is now fitted to more than 1.8 million HDi diesel engines worldwide. Since 1998, Peugeot has also been conducting a reforestation project in Amazonia.

The 50-millionth Peugeot, a 308 SW, was made at Peugeot's site in Sochaux, France, in June.
