FBI chief attends security summit in Queenstown

The head of the United States FBI was at the centre of an international security summit held under tight secrecy in Queenstown.

Director Robert S. Mueller III attended the high-level conference of English-speaking security chiefs and left for Australia about lunchtime today.

Mr Mueller flew out on one of two Gulfstream 5 jets.

It is understood the summit discussed counter-terrorism strategies and tactics at the exclusive Millbrook Resort, near Arrowtown.

The Prime Minister and police national crimes manager, Detective Superintendent Bill Bishop, refused to comment on the summit.

Mr Mueller, who was in office only a week when the September 11 terrorist attacks happened, is a former US assistant attorney-general.
